Family Nurse Practitioner
Angela Thornton is a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FPN) with over 11 years of advanced practice experience and more than 16 years as a registered nurse. She provides compassionate, evidence-based care to patients of all ages, with a focus on prevention, wellness, and long-term health. Her clinical interests include medical weight management, hypertension, and comprehensive diabetes care.
Angela’s experience includes primary care, chronic disease management, preventive health services, DOT physicals, weight loss, and patient education. She is dedicated to building meaningful relationships with her patients and delivering personalized care that supports each individual’s health goals.
Before beginning her nursing career, Angela proudly served 10 years on active duty in the United States Air Force. This experience shaped her strong sense of service, leadership, and patient advocacy. She is a passionate advocate for veterans and their families, ensuring they receive high-quality, compassionate healthcare.
Angela finds great fulfillment in serving diverse populations at Athens Neighborhood Health Center. Having been raised in a multicultural family and faced many of the challenges her patients experience, she relates deeply to their journeys. She is committed to addressing health disparities, promoting preventive care, and making a meaningful impact in the community.
Previously, Angela worked at Piedmont Hospital as a charge nurse and nurse residency preceptor, mentoring and training new nurses. She also enjoys precepting nurse practitioner students, supporting the development of future healthcare providers.
She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the Georgia Nurses Association (GNA), the Georgia Board of Nursing, and The American Legion.
Outside of work, Angela is passionate about fitness, wellness, and family life. She enjoys staying active, spending quality time with her family, and helping her husband with gardening.
