According to NACHC, March is Oral Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of oral health and the role it plays in overall wellbeing. Good oral health is essential at every stage of life, and early prevention and education are essential.
Oral health is closely connected to overall health. Untreated dental issues can lead to pain, infection, difficulty eating or speaking, and can impact the ability to focus and succeed. Preventive care, including regular dental visits, proper brushing and flossing, and access to fluoride treatments, plays a critical role in reducing these risks.
Despite its importance, access to dental care remains a challenge for many families. Barriers such as cost, transportation, and limited availability of providers can prevent from receiving routine care. As a result, dental issues are one of the most common unmet health needs, among children and adults.
At Athens Neighborhood Health Center, we are committed to improving access to oral health services for our community. Through preventive care, education, and treatment services, we work to ensure that families: adults and children, have the resources they need to maintain good oral health.
National Oral Health Month is a reminder that oral health is not separate from overall health. It is a critical part of preventive care. By increasing awareness and expanding access, we can help support healthier outcomes for children and families in our community.
